Job Description


The Ecosystem Modelling group at Institute of Marine Sciences, Middle East Technical University is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in the area of modelling environmental and climate impacts on the Marmara Sea ecosystem. METU-IMS is the leading international marine science institute in Turkey with a 100% English education and research. All METU-IMS faculty engage in teaching, research and service towards the overall goal of sustainable of management of aquatic ecosystems based on excellent science.

The position is part of a long-term multi-institutional effort, established in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization to improve the health of the Marmara Sea ecosystem. The successful applicant will join a young, vigorous and interdisciplinary research group under the direction of Dr. Baris Salihoglu. The applicant will be modelling the complex Marmara Sea dynamics with different 1D and 3D models to assess the state of the ecosystem degradation.

Preferred candidates must possess a Ph.D. in physical oceanography, earth sciences, applied mathematics, or the physical, biological, and chemical sciences. An ability and interest to work across these disciplines, as well as quantitative, and communication skills are a must. Excellent programming/modelling skills are essential.

The position is initially for 1 year and the contract can be extended up to 3 years based on the performance of the candidate.
