The 2016 Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Award is awarded to Michael O'Sullivan for the poster/PICO entitled:

Small global effect on terrestrial net primary production due to increased fossil fuel aerosol emissions from East Asia during the last decade. (O'Sullivan, Michael; Rap, A.; Reddington, C.; Spracklen, D.; Buermann, W.)

Michael is a second-year PhD student in the Institute of Climate and Atmospheric Science (ICAS) at the University of Leeds, UK. His research focuses on a better understanding of the controlling mechanisms of terrestrial carbon fluxes, and the regional distribution of sinks/sources using a combination of land-surface models and satellite and ground-based observations. The poster presented at EGU 2016 describes the results from a recent modelling study which tested the hypothesis that increases in atmospheric aerosols from fossil fuel burning, since the turn of the century, enhanced the diffuse light fraction and the efficiency of plant carbon uptake.
