Lukas J. Hörtnagl is a PhD student at the Institute of Ecology, University of Innsbruck, Austria. His current research is focusing on measuring and modelling fluxes of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) between mountain grassland ecosystems and the atmosphere under the supervision of Georg Wohlfahrt. The objective of his work is to investigate abiotic, biotic and management controls on observed BVOC exchange patterns. Previous measurements have shown significant fluxes of methanol and, to a lesser degree, acetaldehyde and acetone. The presented poster focuses on the latter two compounds, quantifying their inter-annual variability in ecosystem-atmosphere exchange and showing that the investigated grassland can act as a source and sink for both compounds.
